Music of the islands is usually associated with Don Ho, and with good reason. Don’s famous classic “Tiny Bubbles” is generally associated as Hawaii music. While this song is a classic, there is much more to Hawaii Music then simple ukulele strumming. Hawaii music includes Jazz, Jawaiian, as well as rock, blues, and classical. The popularization of Hawaii music began around the turn of the century with a Broadway show entitled “The Bird of Paradise.” This play, written by Richard Walton Tully and featuring songs by natives Sylvester Kalama and Kapule Kanoa, brought the music of Hawaii front and center on the New York scene.
